A Seat Leon driven by a 71-year-old man, traveling from the direction of Straelen, collided with a Citroen. Two women, aged 57 and 63, were in the Citroen. All three people involved in the accident were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by the fire department. Their injuries were so severe that they were airlifted to hospitals by rescue helicopters. Later that evening, the 63-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries. Her family was notified by the police victim support unit. An expert was on site to determine the cause of the accident, while the two vehicles involved were impounded. Due to the accident and subsequent cleanup work by a specialist company, the L361 is currently still closed.
