Same orange pack leaning against the log the exact same way he had placed his. Same posture — left elbow on left knee, head slightly forward — the posture his ex used to point out. It looked at the fire and not at him. When it looked up the eyes were wrong. Not the shape. Not the color. Something behind them that was not what you expect to find when you look at a person across a fire. He backed away slowly and walked three hours in the dark. He left his tent. He did not go back.
