I Rode Florida’s Most Controversial Bike Trail… Is It Actually Good?

I rode Florida’s Van Fleet Trail to find out if it’s actually boring… or one of the best bike trails in the state. The General James A. Van Fleet State Trail is a 29-mile rail trail in Central Florida stretching from Polk City to Mabel, and it’s famous for being long, straight, remote, and surprisingly divisive among cyclists. In this video, I ride the entire Van Fleet Trail through the Green Swamp to answer one question: is Florida’s most controversial bike trail boring… or brilliant? Some riders call the Van Fleet Trail monotonous because it’s flat, straight, and has very few towns or stops. Others say it’s one of the best rail trails in Florida because of the uninterrupted miles, peaceful scenery, wildlife, and rare feeling of complete solitude. The General James A. Van Fleet State Trail runs nearly 29 miles between Polk City and Mabel and is one of the longest uninterrupted paved bike trails in Florida, passing through forests, wetlands, bridges, and the heart of the Green Swamp. If you enjoy Florida bike trails, cycling adventures, rail trails, scenic bike rides, bike touring, and long-distance cycling, this is one of the most unique rides in the state. 🚴 Trail: General James A.
