Across Tripura, the airy notes of the Sumui continue to guide dances, songs and celebrations. Crafted from locally gathered bamboo, the traditional flute is played alongside percussion instruments during festivals such as Garia Puja. Handmade by artisans who judge the bamboo through look and feel, the Sumui remains deeply woven into the musical traditions of Tripura’s tribal communities.
