A demonstration and commentary on one of Singer's most iconic and successful machines.  The 301 was a successor to the vaunted Singer Featherweight and like the Featherweight, the 301 was one of the only portable machines from the vintage era.  With its all steel drivetrain housed in a chassis and body of Aluminum, this machine could be set up in a table, or taken to other locations and simply propped onto any table surface and used on site.  Its rotary hook provides one of the straightest and finest straight stitches ever seen from a domestic sewing machine.  Although it shares its bobbin and bobbin case design with the Featherweight, it provides a wider working space and stronger motor than the Featherweight for work on heavier weight fabrics when called upon.  (NOTE:  This machine is most "at home" when sewing on light to medium weight fabrics).  Lauded by quilters and fine sewers alike, it is considered one of Singer's best models and would be the basis for the 400 and 500 series that followed.
