Le prix du rêve américain : sacrifier les pauvres pour sauver l'économie | Documentaire HD

Since the 2009 economic crisis, more than nine million jobs have been created in America. Officially, the recession is over. But American workers have emerged from the crisis more vulnerable and poorer than ever. 46.7 million Americans live in poverty, or about 15% of the U.S. population living below the poverty line. But they aren't unemployed; most of them have at least two jobs. They are the "working poor." Meet the people driving America's economic recovery. Germania has two minimum-wage jobs and works 18-hour days. Three-quarters of her salary goes toward the 160-square-foot motel room she shares with her two children and her mother-in-law. But even with two jobs, she struggles to buy food for her family. Over the past four months, they've stayed in five motels, moving every two weeks to increasingly cheaper rooms as their money dwindles. Joe and Chelsie live with their two daughters in a tent in a church parking lot. Their bathroom is a portable toilet they share with 50 other people. About 500 families in Seattle live in these temporary camps. Like Germania, Chelsie works full-time, but she can no longer afford to live in the city where she works. Scott Slawson, a union leader, has worked for General Electric for 13 years. But a few days ago, he learned that his job was being outsourced to a state where wages are unguaranteed and 50% lower. He doesn't know if he'll be able to find another job afterward. This documentary was produced by Babel Press and edited by Hélène Eckmann.
