Dual GI 275 upgrade - Flight Director takeoff vs Vacuum driven AI in a Mooney Ovation
Comparing performance of a Flight Director on the Attitude Indicator of a GI 275 vs that on a vacuum driven KI 256. The solid state AI of the GI 275 is significantly more stable than the one on the KI 256 and actually truly helps in maintaining correct attitude during an IFR takeoff. The FD in the KI 256 jumps all over the place and ends up lower than the preset pitch with resulting lower flatter climb out and lower VSI if one follows its commands.
