The Zugspitze via the Höllental is and remains one of Germany's most spectacular, but also most challenging, mountain tours! ⛰️ At almost 2,200 meters above sea level, you'll encounter everything: a gorge, a slab of ice, the Höllentalferner glacier, and a steep final via ferrata. ⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CURRENT CONDITIONS: The Höllentalferner glacier has changed significantly due to its retreat. The bergschrund (the transition from the glacier to the via ferrata) is becoming more treacherous each year and, depending on the season, can be extremely steep, extensive, or polished smooth. 🛑 THE ONE TOOL YOU MUST NOT FORGET: Many underestimate the ice and attempt it with lightweight crampons or trail running shoes. This is a serious risk! 👉 PROPER CRAMPONS (with anti-balling plates) and a suitable ice axe/trekking pole are essential on the bare ice of the Höllentalferner glacier. Anyone attempting this route without crampons risks life-threatening slips!
