DeWalt DCD996 Chuck Removal & Fitting a Replacement. Difficulty- HIGH.

This video is aimed at those with a damaged chuck on a DeWalt DCD996. After my chuck jammed I found out the chuck is not supposed to be removed and DeWalt wants you to buy a whole new transmission with a new chuck already fitted. In this video I show how I removed the chuck on my drill and replaced it with a new one. It’s not an easy repair and while you don’t need many tools you will need a No.10 & 15 Torx bits and be mechanically minded. You will also need a source of very high heat like oxy-acetylene. It’s a fair bit of work but it saved me a lot of money and saved me from throwing out half my drill to landfill. I wasn’t intending to make a complete start to finish video but that’s how it’s ended up so I have used parts of three different videos to make one.
