No talking. No music. Just real ambient sound. A midnight heavy rain walk through Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan, beginning at 12:00:03 AM. This walk moves through the quiet nightlife district around Nijo Ginza Street and Tomakomai Station — a northern port city on Hokkaido's Pacific coast, filmed just hours after the remnants of Typhoon Bavi reached the island. While filming my previous walk in Akita, I learned that the remnants of Typhoon Bavi were moving toward Hokkaido. I immediately drove north to Tomakomai, hoping to capture the atmosphere before the weather system moved away. Tomakomai is one of Hokkaido's most important port cities, connecting the island with mainland Japan by sea. Known for its ferry terminals, industrial harbor, and long Pacific coastline, it serves as a major transportation gateway while also supporting one of Japan's busiest cargo ports. This walk, however, explores a quieter side of the city. Beginning shortly after midnight, the route passes through the nearly empty entertainment district before heading toward Tomakomai Station and then returning through the same rain-soaked streets. About ten minutes into the walk, the wind became strong enough to damage my umbrella. I returned to my vehicle, replaced it with a stronger wind-resistant umbrella, and continued filming. Throughout the walk, powerful gusts repeatedly turn the umbrella inside out. At one point, it is blown completely out of my hands, forcing me to run after it before continuing the recording. The forecast called for winds of around 10 m/s, but standing alone on the streets after midnight, they felt considerably stronger. Heavy rain continues through much of the walk, accompanied by strong wind, wet pavement, glowing reflections, and the quiet atmosphere of Tomakomai after midnight. This video is probably not the most relaxing choice for sleep. Instead, it offers an authentic experience of walking through a northern Japanese city during the lingering effects of a passing typhoon. Nothing is staged. No narration, no music, and no AI-generated sound — just real rain, recorded on location. Real ambient sound (ASMR). Best experienced with headphones.
