Basquiat's Sisters on Him Selling 1st Painting to Debbie Harry for $200, Now Worth $20M (Part 2)

Watch Full Interview:    • Jean Michel Basquiat's Sisters Lisane & Je...   Part 1:    • Jean-Michel Basquiat's Sisters Lisane & Je...   Part 3:    • Basquiat's Sisters on Him Passing Away w/ ...   -------- In this clip, Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux discussed their brother's foray into the art world. As a teenager, Basquiat began creating a theme that he deemed a "faux religion" and began leaving his mark around Manhattan. Vlad likened Basquiat's approach to early social media posts, as he used his art to repeatedly broadcast a theme or get people’s attention. Following a high school prank, Basquiat was expelled sparking concern from his parents as his future appeared uncertain. Despite initial challenges, Basquiat found his first break in the media world through an article in "The Village Voice" in 1978. His work transitioned from street art to canvas, and he sold his first piece to Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry. As his notoriety grew, Basquiat's financial success in the art world flourished despite the early disapproval from his family. Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure © is on view until January 1, 2024 in Los Angeles. Don't miss a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these works.
