In this part of the story, children will see Joseph arranging hay in the manger, while Mary cradles the weeping Jesus and sings "Lullaby, Jesus" to Him – just like in the Christmas carol "You have no cradle, you have no pillow, in the manger she put hay under His little heads." Karolek discovers that Jesus really did lie in the manger, which normally served animals, that he cried like a real baby and was soothed by his mother's lullaby. Christmas becomes familiar to children here – it's the story of a tiny Child experiencing cold, fatigue, and the tenderness of his parents. Then the action shifts to a night field: shepherds sit by a fire, watching over their sheep, when suddenly an extraordinary light illuminates the sky, and an angel appears above them. The children hear the words of the carol "Arise, shepherds, God is born for you!" and see how the shepherds have truly "arrived to Bethlehem" – running, singing, "Let us all go to the stable," with the sheep rushing along with them. In the nativity scene, they bow to Jesus, and the ox and donkey stand near the manger, warming the Child with their breath – just like in the words of the Christmas carol, "Behold, the ox and the donkey bow to Him." At the end, heaven literally "opens" above the nativity scene – a choir of angels appears, singing "Gloria, Gloria, in excelsis Deo." Karolek asks what these difficult words mean and, together with Ala and Krystianek, discovers that "Gloria in excelsis Deo" is Latin for "Glory to God in the highest." The children learn that carols were once sung in Latin and that the word "glory" means someone very important, worthy of the highest respect.
