Making a Backgammon Set #1 - Casting The Counters and Large Ingot
This is the first of several videos casting an old backgammon set in various alloys and metals. Today I'm casting the white counters using a beta brass recipe of 50% zinc and 50% copper. At 50% zinc this brass is on the borderline of being a white brass, white brass being greater than 50% zinc. I was hoping for a silver coloured brass, however the counters do have a yellow tinge to them which may influence the metal I use for the red pieces and the rest of the board. I'm casting these pieces in Petrobond sand. The rest of the brass was poured into a large steel ingot mould and made into a large polished ingot. The brass ingot looks great and has a lovely colour. Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games dating back 5000 years to Mesopotamian times. As before I had lots of smoke issues with this brass hopefully I can find a way to make brass in future without setting fire to the zinc and creating lots of smoke. Hope you enjoy the video, the other parts will follow in between other videos. Don't forget to like and subscribe and feel free to comment.
