Montenegro during World War One is an interesting story of Balkan history. The country only became an independent kingdom in 1910. Before that it was the so-called Principality of Montenegro. Being closely linked with Serbia the Central Powers decided to invade the Kingdom of Montenegro in January 1916. This was the Montenegrin Campaign.
