Norse Paganism Isn’t Just Viking Aesthetics | A Personal Journey

For 30 years, I have walked a Heathen path. But it did not start with Viking aesthetics, runes, mythology, or a hammer necklace. It started when my sister died. That loss broke something open in me. The answers I was given did not hold the weight of grief. I was told “everything happens for a reason,” but that never made sense to me. What I needed was not a soft answer. I needed a worldview strong enough to stand in the room with death. That is where Norse Paganism and Heathenry began to make sense. The Norse gods were not untouched by suffering. Odin sacrifices for wisdom. Tyr loses his hand. Freyja knows grief. Baldr dies. Even the gods face fate. That honesty changed the way I understood loss, memory, ancestors, and what it means to keep standing when life gives you no clean reason to. This is not a video about fantasy Vikings. This is about grief, faith, death, ancestors, and why the old ways still speak to people living in the modern world. In this first episode of the 30 Years a Heathen series, I talk about how personal loss led me away from the answers I inherited and toward a path rooted in memory, honor, endurance, and the gods. If you are new to Norse Paganism, Heathenry, Asatru, or you are coming from Christianity and trying to understand why the Norse gods keep pulling at you, this video is for you.
