Sir Philip Sidney's Puritan Poetics
Sidney's Defence of Poesie is a mature expression of Renaissance poetics. What surprises more is that it comes from a Puritan, largely because the conventional view of the Puritans is coloured by their reception by the Victorians and the atheist humanists. Sidney, like the great John Milton, manages to show a commitment to literature that in no ways compromises on his Christian commitments. In this lecture, some of the main features of his Defence are discussed. ❤️ If you find my channel helpful, become a channel member: / drscottmasson ❤️ Subscribe to my Substack: https://drscottmasson.substack.com/ ❤️ Support my channel and assist me in providing better content: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=...
