COTTAM: Bassetlaw Parish #47 of 66

Today we've landed in one of the smallest parishes Bassetlaw has to offer, and one of the ones that despite its small size, is very well known, and not for the village itself! In fact, it is much more well known for something that stands next to the village, that towers above it leaving the settlement in its shadow. That something is the third and final power station in MegaWatt Valley,. which doesn't even fall within this parish - it technically belongs to both Treswell and Rampton and Woodbeck...but it's so close to this village that it would be daft to consider it anything but belonging to this. It was a coal fired station which is set to be torn down like High Marnham was, sometime before 2025. The railway line we saw in the North Leverton episode makes another appearance here in the form of something called a "merry-go-round" which is a loop around the power station that was built to supply it with coal. The village also had a station on the line as well but that line has since closed and been removed - it was the same one that crossed Torksey Viaduct! You might be forgiven for thinking there's no church here but there was until 2002, when it was deconsecrated and turned into a private house, and there's now no public access. There is an old chapel though that we can see, as well as a pub which is popular apparently with bikers. I'm not sure if it has closed down now though, and that's something I've asked the locals in this episode. No matter where you go here, you'll always have that power station behind you.
