J. S. Bach: "Sleepers Awake" from Cantata No. 140
Cantata No. 140, known in English as "Sleepers Wake!" is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. This work is regarded as one of Bach's most mature and popular sacred cantatas. He composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig where it was first performed it on November 25, 1731. Bach worked in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. During this time, he was responsible for the church services and ecclesiastical festivities at both the St. Nicholas and St. Thomas churches. The music I play on this video is transcribed for guitar by Steven Saulls.
