Collateral (2004) REACTION | First Time Watching | Syntell & Rekkai Syntell and Rekkai are taking a detour — this one came straight out of their live stream debate on the greatest assassin movies ever made. Collateral landed in the top 15, and Rekkai had never seen it. Michael Mann. Tom Cruise with salt-and-pepper hair as a contract killer. Jamie Foxx as a cab driver who cleans his car like it belongs to him and has been telling himself he'll start his limo company for 12 years. One night in Los Angeles is about to break all of that open. Vincent needs five stops. Max needs to survive. Five witnesses are on the list — and the jazz club conversation about Miles Davis might be the best scene in the movie. Syntell had been waiting for Rekkai to watch this one, and Rekkai came out of it with two things to say: this movie is good, and Jamie Foxx deserved that Oscar nomination. The Felix meeting — where Max has to flip a switch and become Vincent in real time — is the scene. The backseat conversation about improv, nihilism, and cosmic dust is the scene. The post-reaction goes deep on Tom Cruise being one-note the whole way through, Jamie Foxx having levels every time he appeared, the Heat diner comparison, and the big question: did Vincent actually plan to let Max live at the end? Syntell says yes. Rekkai says Max was always a loose end.
