Generally, people want to relate revenue to marketing investment… In the past, this strategy made a lot of sense. But is it still a good idea? According to Bruno, this strategy is NOT the best currently. Marketing costs are much more expensive than they used to be, and it's very difficult to allocate that percentage of revenue to marketing investment. Now, what you should do is pay attention to the Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) metric. This metric will give you an idea of how many reais you need to invest in marketing to make a sale. With CAC, you can find out how much it costs to acquire a customer and how much you need to reach more customers. For example, you have a CAC of 40 reais. This month, your business had a revenue of 50,000 reais and your average ticket is 100 reais. If you set aside 10% of that revenue, you would have 5,000 reais to invest in marketing. If the cost to acquire customers is 40 reais, with that amount invested, you could get 125 customers. But that's not enough for you to grow… The calculation you need to do is the following: First, how much do you want to bill next month? For example, you want to generate R$200,000 in revenue, with 30% of that amount coming from sales to existing customers, i.e., R$60,000. Additionally, 10% will come organically, i.e., R$20,000. This leaves you with R$120,000 to reach your goal. And to achieve this, you need to invest in marketing. If you have a Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) of R$40 and an average order value (AOQ) of R$100, you should take the R$120,000 and divide it by R$100, which gives you R$1,200, the number of sales you need to make to reach your goal. Then, you need to take this number and multiply it by the value of each of these existing customers, which is the CAC of R$40. The result is R$1,200 x R$40 = R$48,000, which is the amount you need to invest in marketing to achieve your objective. This value is just an example, and you need to evaluate your business to invest in marketing strategically. But remember: don't get hung up on the percentage; calculate your Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC).
