A Commans to Love Speaker Rev Stephen Roger

5th July Speaker Rev Stephen Roger Rev. Stephen Rogers preaches from John 13:34–35, where the Lord Jesus, in His final extended conversation with the disciples before the cross, gives them a new commandment: to love one another as He has loved them. Rogers shows that this command flows from the same passage that spoke of humility that morning, and argues that far from being an optional add-on to grace, God's commands are themselves an expression of love — something the Psalmist celebrated rather than resented. Rogers unpacks the theme under three headings: the Command to love, the Character evident in love (drawing on 1 Corinthians 13 to show that biblical love has real content and isn't infinitely mouldable like the world's version), and the Conviction that love brings, since it's love among believers — not eloquence or big numbers — that authenticates the gospel to a watching world. He closes with his own conversion testimony, describing how it was the quiet, unmistakable love he saw in a group of Christian students that kept him coming back until he was converted on 14 November 1974. 0:00 Lead In 00:21 Teaching Time 01:08 Message Summary 04:09 The Commans to Love 11:27 The Character Evident in Love 24:37 The conviction brought by Love 34:43 Prayer
