Make a Friendship Starplay quilt -101- Beginner Quilt Making

In todays Verbal/Visual Video I am going to show you how to combine your Plain Squares with your Half Square Triangle Squares. Both I have shown you in previous videos. Supplies Needed for a 85.5 x 85.5 inch quilt top- White 1 1/2 yard or 1 yard for star points and 1/2 yard for center stars Blue 6- 1/2 yard cuts or a big bunch of scraps Red 7- 1/2 yard cuts or a big bunch of scraps Cutting- From 1 yard of White cut 6- 5.5" Strips, sub cut into 48- 5.5 x 5.5 inch Squares From 1/2 yard of White cut 3- 5" Strips, sub cut into 24- 5 x 5 inch Squares From 1 of each 6- 1/2 yard cuts of Blue cut 1- 5.5" Strip, sub cut into 48- 5.5 x 5.5 inch Squares From each of your 6- 1/2 yard cuts of Blue cut 2- 5" Strips, sub cut into 84- 5 x 5 inch Squares From each of your 7- 1/2 yard cuts of Red cut 3- 5" Strips, sub cut into 157- 5 x 5 inch Squares Use Diagrams in video for your layout. You can Screen Shot Diagrams if you need. This is a 19 x 19 layout. You can make this any size you wish. If you did say 2.5" (2" finished) Squares you would get a 38.5 x 38.5 inch quilt. If you use 3.5" Squares (3"finished) you would get a 57 x 57" inch quilt. Just remember for your Half Square Triangles that you need to cut them at the next size up. So to get 2.5 inch unfinished your start square needs to be 3" for the 2 at a time method. If you wish to do the 4 at a time or 8 at a time HSTs that I taught you in this video    • 5 Ways To Make Half Square Triangles- 101-...   then you would start with the corresponding size needed for those needed for the unfinished/finished squares. 4 at a time chart- Start Squares Unfinished Finished 5.75" 3.5" 3" 6.5" 4" 3.5" 7.5" 4.5" 4" 8" 5" 4.5" 8.75" 5.5" 5" 9.5" 6" 5.5" 10.5" 6.5" 6" You need 12 of each color to start 8 at a time chart- Start Squares Unfinished Finished 8" 3.5" 3" 9" 4" 3.5" 10" 4.5" 4" 11" 5" 4.5" 12" 5.5" 5" 13" 6" 5.5" 14" 6.5" 6" You need 6 of each color to start Yardage for each size quilt will vary from using Fat Quarters on up.
