Learn more about our training app 'Open Road' and sign up for your free ride on our website: http://bikethe.world About Col de Montgenèvre (FR) via Colle del Sestriere (IT): This is a double climb separated by a long beautiful descent. First, you climb up to Colle del Sestriere and then you climb from Cesana Torinese to Col de Montgenèvre. Both mountain passes have been used by the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia several times. A big segment (beginning to Cesana Torinese) of this route follows the same route that lead to Chris Frome's victory of the Giro in 2018 (stage 19). Altogether you climb almost 1200 meters / 4000 feet and descent 750 meters / 2500 feet. The ride starts in the beautiful Italian valley 'Val Chisone'. The first five kilometers / 3 miles are almost flat and perfect as a warm-up. Slowly the road gets steeper with an average around 6 percent, sometimes peaking at a maximum of 9 percent. You have beautiful views from the road of the valley and the mountains. Colle del Sestriere is located in the center of the alpine village Sestriere, famous for it's skiing and hosting Tour de France and Giro d'Italia several times. From here you have a long descent where you effortlessly can enjoy the mountain views. You can use the descent to recover from the first climb because the next climb is steeper and more difficult. On the second climb, you can marvel by man's ability to conquer nature and built tunnels. Because the second climb has not one, but three tunnels you ride through. The second tunnel is rather long . Once you leave the last tunnel you are almost in France. Having gone through customs you are almost there. Once you see the large Obelisk, you know the ride is almost over and you can enjoy a cold drink at one of the local French cafes. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...
