Violin Masterclass by Professor Lorin Maazel in which they work on the first movement of the Richard Strauss' Violin Sonata op.18. This masterclass took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid 2014. Allegro ma non troppo Abstract: The masterclass begins with a comment by Maazel about the pitch duration in a certain passage: do not play too quick for not losing the break sensation. Lorin Maazel gives also indications on finger placing: flat position on the string, more necessary in fast passages to get a better quality of sound. In a specific passage, Prof. Maazel recommends more metric accuracy to obtain a kinder character. Also indications about phrasing, tuning and absolute hearing. Finally, the professor recommends more use of the arm for a better vibrato.
