New Shoe Day Went Horribly Wrong (Then Very Right with the Asics Superblast 3) #marathontraining

6:30am. Fifteen miles on the plan. Slightly nervous, mostly because it’s a new shoe day and that always feels like a gamble. Started out along the seafront in Weymouth, trying to dodge the Weymouth Half chaos before it kicked off. Big mistake thinking I could just “sneak in a few miles”. Bigger mistake… the shoes. Didn’t even make it properly into the run before turning around. No bounce, no joy, no way I was doing 15 miles in them. Back home. Emergency shoe change. Enter the Asics Superblast 3. Within about ten steps… completely different story. Suddenly I’m being told off for going too fast. First time in a while that’s happened. Not saying it’s all the shoes, but it’s definitely the shoes. Ended up doing most of the run lapping a track to avoid the race. It was boring but physically… somehow great? Pace creeping up, legs feeling good, everything clicking in a way it hasn’t for a while. Also tested mid-run nutrition like a proper athlete. Gels: yes. Mint cake: surprisingly yes. Jaffa Cakes: absolutely not. Dry biscuit while running should be illegal. Finished way, way better than last week and these shoes might actually be magic. Edinburgh Marathon getting closer.
