Menko AHY Hadiri Rakernas XVII Asosiasi Pemerintah Kota Seluruh Indonesia (APEKSI)

Medan, July 2, 2026 – Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasized that mayors are the best representatives of regions in promoting economic potential while resolving various urban issues faced by the community. At the closing of the 18th National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) in Medan, attended by 86 mayors from 98 APEKSI members, AHY stated that regional heads are the leaders who best understand the needs of the people because they face various development challenges every day. According to AHY, today's urban challenges are increasingly complex, ranging from increasing urbanization, the need for housing and residential areas, congestion, waste management, flooding, and social and economic disparities. Therefore, mayors are required to be creative and innovative leaders in providing solutions. "Mayors are the leaders closest to the people. They understand directly the needs and expectations of the people. Therefore, I often say that mayors are the best ambassadors for their respective regions," said AHY. He added that success in attracting investment is determined not only by promotion, but also by the region's ability to provide certainty, good public services, and a conducive development climate. Thus, incoming investment can create jobs, increase community income, and strengthen the regional economy in a sustainable manner.
