Prix de l'énergie : le gouvernement dans l'impasse
As the war in Iran drags on, gasoline prices continue to climb and threaten to plunge France into an "oil shock," to use the words of the Minister of the Economy. Roland Lescure later backtracked on his statement, asserting that France is "better prepared" and "less exposed" than its "European neighbors or Asian countries" to the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz. At this stage, the government has announced support measures for fishermen and transporters. But for those working in these sectors, these measures are insufficient. Back in Parliament, members of the National Assembly and the Senate are also criticizing the government's measures. Marine Le Pen accuses the executive branch of being a "crisis profiteer" with the increased revenue from fuel taxes. The National Rally is calling for a tax cut, while La France Insoumise is demanding a price freeze. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is rejecting these demands, explaining that he has no budgetary leeway. Can we speak of a new oil shock? Is the current situation comparable to that of 1973 or 1979? What are our European neighbors doing? We discuss this with Isabelle This Saint-Jean, economist and professor at Sorbonne Paris Nord University; Frédéric Schaeffer, head of the France desk at Les Echos; and Thomas Grjebine, economist at CEPII (Center for Prospective Studies and International Information) and head of the “Macroeconomics and International Finance” program. 🔴 To stay up-to-date on all political and parliamentary news, subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/publicse... 👉 Our website: http://www.publicsenat.fr ▶️ Watch all our replays: https://www.publicsenat.fr/replay 📬 Subscribe to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/NewslettersPublicSenat 🚀 Follow us on social media: Facebook: / publicsenat X: / publicsenat Instagram: / publicsenat LinkedIn: / 2996809 Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/publicsenat.fr Threads: https://www.threads.net/@publicsenat TikTok: / publicsenat
