For over 40 years, nearly 800,000 children and adolescents lived in SENAME residences and centers, where thousands of them, instead of protection, found abandonment, abuse, and death. Since 2025, a presidential commission has been working to uncover this historical truth through the voices of survivors… to heal, to prevent repetition. We accessed previously unpublished testimonies and documents, visited former juvenile detention centers, and accompanied these adults on the painful journey of rebuilding their interrupted childhoods.
