Rolls-Royce Camargue - The Italian Adventure
Buon giorno! :D For a company steeped in its conservatism and upholding of traditional luxury, the Rolls-Royce Camargue of 1975 was a response to the rapidly changing tastes of the world surrounding the premier brand of the motoring scene, mixing all the accomplishments and finery expected of a 1970s Rolls-Royce with crisp, unconventional Italian styling so as to create a machine that was not your average luxury saloon. Sadly, Rolls-Royce's attempt to step outside the box, and in so doing create the world's most expensive production car for the time, near-universal condemnation followed, and today the Camargue is often regarded as perhaps the worst Rolls-Royce product ever built, although as with so many things, time has been generally kind to this misunderstood machine, and today a new appreciation has emerged for this 1970s venture into unknown territory by the most bespoke name in the automotive business. Written permission allowing me to discuss the Camargue and the Rolls-Royce brand has been generously granted by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and I greatly appreciate their candour in presenting me the opportunity to discuss one of my personal favourite cars.
