Guillermo Tolosa is an economist with a degree from the University of the Republic and a PhD in Economics from the University of California. He emigrated from our country at a very young age. He built a good part of his professional career outside Uruguay as an official at the International Monetary Fund and living in Eastern European countries. A few weeks ago, at 49 years of age, he decided to return to Montevideo when he accepted the offer to lead a key agency in national economic policy. "Fundamentally, (I'm returning) to spread hope and gratitude to a country that appears more privileged each year, relatively speaking. And, despite perhaps having more comfortable options, I return to work with enormous enthusiasm and pride. I assume the presidency of the Central Bank in a new era..."
