Electricity from Dirt? - (No Battery Needed)

Experiments using materials like copper and galvanized steel to generate real electrical power straight from the ground are fun and easy to do at home. Starting with nails and copper wire and scaling up to larger outdoor pipes, we explore how soil can act as a natural electrolyte, as well as what kind of voltage and current you can actually get from an earth battery. If you’ve ever wondered whether you can pull electricity from the ground—or just want to see a fascinating real-world experiment, this is a simple, hands-on way to understand it. Along the way, I test different configurations, measure the output with a multimeter, and push the limits to see what this setup can (and can’t) power. You’ll also see why current readings tend to drop over time, how the system recovers, and what’s really happening at the metal surfaces. ‪@avlmountains‬ #electricity #battery #science
