Classic Italian Film: The Mystery of the Music Box - Sherlock Holmes sets out to discover why a trio of evil murderers, including a dangerously attractive woman, desperately want to obtain three small, unassuming and inexpensive music boxes. Stinky is an avid music box collector and owns several rather expensive pieces in his extensive collection. The previous night, someone broke into his apartment and knocked him out when he tried to intervene. All they took, however, was a simple wooden music box he had purchased at auction that day for just 2 pounds. The music box was one of three available for sale, and as Holmes and Watson begin tracking down the other buyers, it becomes clear that someone will stop at nothing, including murder, to recover all three. When Holmes discovers the identity of the music box's maker, he is convinced it contains clues to recovering something very valuable that the government has kept hidden from the public. Reviews: "The latest in a wonderful cycle of 14 films released by a different major studio but which have always retained the brilliant lead pair of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and his faithful assistant Dr. Watson. Some argue that this is a much weaker film in the series, but frankly, I have no idea what those opinions are based on, as this is another beautifully scripted and professionally directed detective adventure! When an old school friend of Dr. Watson's is found murdered, Sherlock Holmes immediately suspects it has something to do with his latest collector's item, a wooden music box. Two other identical boxes were made by a convicted thief in prison, and the altered tune hides a secret code that leads his accomplices to the location of two stolen Bank of England printing plates! It's true that the premise of the valuable objects hidden in different locations is somewhat similar to the previous Holmes film, "The Pearl of Death," and may therefore be unoriginal, but the script contains More than enough variety to make "The Secret Code" another highly engaging mystery. Holmes's female adversary, for example, is a truly intelligent woman who almost manages to set a trap for our brilliant detective during a very well-edited sequence. Furthermore, "The Music Box" is fast-paced and contains plenty of exceptional dialogue.
