13-Drivers! The Siltech Symphony Super-Speaker - SoundStage! InSight (November 2020)

The new Siltech Symphony loudspeaker comes from The Netherlands and is priced at more than $500,000 per pair, stands over six feet tall, and has 13 drivers! The incredibly complex five-way design has four woofers, one lower-midrange driver, three upper-midrange drivers, and one beryllium-dome tweeter, as well two diamond-dome tweeters and two ribbon tweeters, which the listener can choose between. With this many drivers and its incredibly complex crossover configuration, a speaker like this one would usually be extremely tough for an amplifier to drive, but what the Symphony also has is a built-in "buffer" amplifier that has no gain, so that pretty much any amplifier can drive the loudspeaker with relative ease. ease. Claimed frequency response for the Symphony is 17Hz-100,000Hz, and the maximum output is said to be 115dB with no more than 0.25% distortion. In this video, Siltech founder and technical director Edwin Rynveld explains all these technical details and more, while company CEO Robert Winterhoff talks about how the Symphony project came to be.
