Hormongesteuerte Jugendliche im Ferienlager: Was soll da schiefgehen? Freitag der 13. | Review
In 1980, director Sean Cunningham only wanted to produce a rip-off of the mega-successful horror film Halloween. Almost by accident, however, he laid the foundation for one of the most famous and successful slasher franchises of all time: Friday the 13th. These days, everyone knows the horror classic Friday the 13th, especially because of its hockey-masked killer, Jason Voorhees. However, Friday the 13th started under completely different circumstances: a Boy Scout summer camp in New Jersey, a budget of $500,000, and a handful of unknown actors. But is Friday the 13th rightfully one of the most famous horror films of all time, and can you still watch it today with a clear conscience? Come to Camp Crystal Lake, today we're going to take a closer look at Friday the 13th! 00:00 A Slasher Legend 01:00 Just a Rip-off of Halloween? 02:22 Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake 05:49 Wonderfully Imperfect Actors 07:01 Alice Finds a Snake (Not a Pants Snake) 09:03 With an axe in your head, you don't need a carpenter 10:40 The film loses momentum... BORING! 12:25 Fake blood in your eyes can cause blindness 13:43 The Slasher Queen: Pamela Voorhees 15:09 Where did the iconic whispering soundtrack come from? 18:04 The legacy of Friday the 13th 18:49 Conclusion and Rating Rating and Conclusion: Believe it or not, I agree with film critic Gene Siskel. Friday the 13th doesn't really have much to offer besides its bloody kills. The actors are inexperienced, the dialogue is terrible, the plot is simplistic, and the cinematography is generic, at times painfully long-winded and tedious. Where Friday the 13th truly shines is in its gory kills. But unlike Gene Siskel, I would place a different emphasis. The kills are so entertaining and shockingly well-staged that they absolutely carry the majority of Friday the 13th. You practically eagerly anticipate how and when the next teenager will be slashed open. In the second act of Friday the 13th, after almost all the teenagers have been killed, you can clearly see how it becomes more tedious. The kills are lacking, and neither the final girl nor the supposed suspense really carries the film. Friday the 13th hits a low point, which is then recovered in the grand finale. Those who watch Friday the 13th with a completely open mind can even look forward to a few minor whodunit moments and try to guess who the murderer is. Only to be given the middle finger by director Sean Cunningham in the finale, because it's impossible to guess the killer's identity throughout the film. The iconic Friday the 13th whisper soundtrack delivers at the crucial moments, and the absence of sound in many other scenes also contributes to a menacing atmosphere. Nearly 30 years later, I have to admit that the dialogue in Friday the 13th amused me immensely because it was so inane that it was entertaining again. The same goes for the over-the-top acting. I can't imagine that anyone in the early 80s actually considered Friday the 13th scary; even back then, the film's success was due to its entertainment value, not because it was particularly shocking. In summary, Friday the 13th is entertaining for long stretches, primarily due to its gory body horror splatter elements. John Carpenter's Halloween is, for me, the far more coherent film; Friday the 13th feels more like a B-horror movie from the video store, yet overall it entertained me better. Sorry Michael Myers, but Jason's mother delivered a better performance in my opinion. I give Friday the 13th 8.5 out of 10.
