Operations at Gold One Modder East mine halted
Gold One's plan to resume operations this morning in Springs was dashed following violent clashes between workers and police outside the Modder East mine. A heavy police contingent and private security was deployed after a worker's car was torched. Operations have stalled for almost a week as the mine faces losses of millions. The workers are demanding that the employer expedite the balloting process for the new majority union Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu).
