Exploring the ABANDONED Madame Sherri's Castle (Chesterfield, NH)

J-MASS INSTAGRAM: @jmassofficial Join me as I explore the ruins of an early 20th century mansion hidden deep in the woods of Chesterfield, New Hampshire: Madame Sherri's Castle! This "castle" was built in 1931 by Madame Sherri, a Paris-born costume designer from New York City who worked on various theatrical productions and Broadway plays throughout much of the 1910s and '20s. With the help from a financial donor, Madame Sherri constructed this castle as a hub for social engagements with the New York theater elite, throwing elaborate parties and events at the place. Unfortunately, Madame Sherri's wealth would run out over time, and by 1962, after many years of the property being overrun by vandals, it was consumed by a devastating fire which burned it to the ground. This was my third time coming to this location, and, while small, it is a truly unique site to see. The ruins are most famous for the iconic staircase that leads to nowhere, standing tall in the middle of the forest as the largest remnant of the opulent mansion that once stood there. Unfortunately, some of the staircase collapsed last year--it was much smaller than I remembered it. There are also entrances into an underground cellar and a large foundation with parts of the walls still intact. It is truly a unique glimpse into early 20th century Americana and the theatrical elite! And, of course, the staircase itself--a site many believe is "supernatural".
