Directora del Tamayo: El arte que entra al museo (y el que queda fuera) - Andrea Torreblanca | #109
In this episode of Art in Dialogue, we talk with Andrea Torreblanca, director of the Tamayo Museum, about the museum's role in contemporary art and the decisions that shape art history. Who decides which works enter a collection? How do historical artists engage with contemporary practices? Can a museum remain a living space and not just an archive of the past? Throughout the conversation, we discuss the legacy of Rufino Tamayo, the formation and evolution of collections, and how the Tamayo Museum fosters new interpretations of art through exhibitions, research, and dialogue with contemporary artists. An episode about the museum as a space for interpretation, about the decisions that shape cultural heritage, and about art as a conversation that never ends. 00:00 Intro 01:58 Guest Artist's Work 02:13 Presentation by Andrea Torreblanca 03:40 Education and Career 06:10 History of the Tamayo Museum 12:15 Changing Programming: Group Exhibitions 15:30 The Challenges of Producing Exhibitions Today 17:59 The Museum as a Space for Imagination 25:20 Spirituality and Contemporary Art 32:10 Art, Communities, and Curatorial Ethics 39:05 The Gelman Collection Controversy 47:00 The Museum as a Starting Point 52:48 The Museum as a Verb 54:20 Closing 💡 Connect with the vibrant artistic community of Arteinformado: https://bit.ly/3VApcjG 👉Follow Andrea Torreblanca and the Tamayo Museum on Arteinformado: https://bit.ly/4u3bJjL https://bit.ly/40cs2gj 🖼️ Exhibition of artwork: Shinji Nagabe presented a project at Collegium about the Treaty of Tordesillas and the concept of borders, creating a 20-meter collective tapestry with residents of Arévalo that connects objects from Arévalo and Brazil.
