Episode 1181 Archie (John Stratton) dons Stan’s (Bernard Youens) best suit to go and get approval for Hilda’s (Jean Alexander) porch but Jerry (Graham Haberfield) tells them they aren’t likely to get permission as they have already put it up. Albert (Jack Howarth) and Minnie (Margot Bryant) ask for the remains of the porch as it would make good firewood. Billy (Kenneth Farrington) and Ray (Neville Buswell) trick Alf (Bryan Mosley) into giving them the key for the corner shop so they can use the shop flat to entertain a couple of birds. Rita (Barbara Knox) spends more alone time with Len (Peter Adamson). Billy and Ray’s dates let them down so the two men drink alone. Councillor Warburton (Martin Boddey) tells Archie the porch must be removed immediately. Alf thinks Rita is only using Len because her house is due to be demolished and she is trying to curry favour with him. The next morning, Hilda is devastated to find the porch has disappeared.
