This tradition has been going on since 1980. The festival has all kinds of rituals—like welcoming the five directions on land, greeting the Southern Sea out on boats, honoring ancestors, the main offering to Bà Chúa Xứ, and sending off the ritual boats into the sea. Besides the ceremonies, people from all over come to watch traditional opera performances, praying for peace, good weather, and plentiful harvests. This year, a whole bunch of visitors from nearby provinces came to join the festival. When Nạc Nai went to visit Uncle and Aunt Út—who they met on a trip to explore the fish corrals in Động Cao—they got the chance to join the lively sea festival. They went out to sea to release the boats, went through all sorts of emotions, and even got to learn more about how salt is made by the salt farmers on Cù islet.
