The future Apollo flight commanders first took to space aboard a Gemini spacecraft on March 16, 1966. The flight plan called for Neil Armstrong to pilot the Gemini 8 spacecraft in to docking with an Agena target vehicle. The flight plan also called for Dave Scott to perform America's spacewalk. Watch how a malfunction aboard the spacecraft cut the planned 3-day mission short - cancelling the spacewalk but not before Armstrong successfully completed the world's first space docking. See how Armstrong wrestled his out of control spacecraft into a safe splashdown in the Pacific Ocean bringing to a successful end the first near fatal in space emergency of the American space program.
