Driving Wujiang Gorge Highway 4K HDR – Breathtaking Canyon Scenery in Southwest China

On this trip, we continue from our previous journey    • Yangjiao Ancient Town 4K HDR - Driving Thr...   Leaving Yangjiao Ancient Town, we drive along G319 into the breathtaking Wujiang Gorge, heading toward Pengshui in Chongqing. On one side, the steep cliffs of Baima Mountain rise sharply; on the other, the Wujiang River lies deep and serene, squeezed tightly between towering cliffs. The peaks are cut almost vertically, with rock layers clearly visible—a classic example of karst terrain. In the Wulong section, unique stone forests, jagged peaks, and natural bridge formations appear one after another, shrouded in mist that drifts through the gorge. Several towering highway bridges span the river, creating a striking contrast between modern engineering and the raw power of nature. The road hugs the cliffs at times and crosses high viaducts at others, with scenery outside the window shifting like cinematic shots, leaving you in awe. Approaching Pengshui, the gorge narrows and then suddenly opens up, forming the distinctive “two mountains, one channel” landscape. The river widens and slows, reflecting the distant layers of lush, green mountains. Tunnels and bridges appear in quick succession, and the view outside changes from shadowed rock tunnels to expansive river vistas almost instantly, like a movie cut. This road runs through a massive geological fissure—mountains sliced like axes, water as clear and green as jade. We get to experience this three-dimensional landscape hidden deep in Chongqing, driving between cliffs that rise nearly 200 meters straight up. Hope you enjoy this journey.
