Title | Sincere Repentance That Turns Away Judgment Message | Jonah 3:1-10 1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to them what I have commanded you.” 3 So Jonah arose, as the LORD had said, and went to Nineveh. Nineveh was a great city before God, which takes three days to walk through. 4 Jonah entered the city and walked around for a day, crying out, “In forty days Nineveh will be overthrown!” 5 The people of Nineveh believed God and proclaimed a fast, and everyone, from high to low, put on sackcloth. 6 When this was heard by the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 Then the king and his officials issued a decree and proclaimed in Nineveh, saying, “Neither man nor beast, neither oxen nor sheep, shall eat or drink anything; that is, neither eat nor drink water. 8 And all man and beast shall wear sackcloth and cry out to God with all their might And each one shall turn from his evil way and from the violence of his hands. 9 God will turn away from his wrath and cease from us to destruction. Who knows if it will not be so? 10 God saw that they had turned from their evil way, and God turned away from his wrath and did not bring upon them the disaster he had said he would bring upon them.
