Title | Jonah's Intolerance and God's Mercy Word | Jonah 4:1-11 1 Jonah was very angry and furious. 2 He prayed to the LORD, saying, “O LORD, did I not say that it would be so when I was in my own country? That is why I fled to Tarshish. For I knew that you are a God gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in love, who turns away from bringing disaster. 3 O LORD, take my life now; it is better for me to die than to live.” 4 The LORD said to him, “Is it right for you to be angry?” 5 Jonah went out of the city and sat down on the east side of the city. There he made a booth for himself and sat under its shade to see what would happen in the city. 6 The LORD God provided a gourd vine to cover Jonah, to give shade for his head and to keep him from his distress. Jonah was greatly glad because of the gourd vine. 7 Then God provided a worm, and the next day At dawn, He caused the vine to eat away at the gourd, and it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God prepared a hot east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head. Jonah became faint and asked to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.” 9 God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry with this vine?” He answered, “I am right to be angry, even to the point of death.” 10 The Lord said, “If you have been concerned about this vine, which you did not labor for and did not plant, which sprang up in one night and withered in one night, 11 how much more will I not be concerned about Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 people who do not know the difference between right and wrong, and also many livestock?” Amen ---------------------------------------------- Jeju Gosan Church | 12-1 Gosan-ro, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si (064-773-0064)
