Developed by mechanical engineer Frederick Winslow Taylor, Scientific Management was an early management movement designed to improve efficiency within the workplace. Scientific management's focus was on determining what constituted an honest day's work as well as identifying the most efficient methods of performing job related tasks. Taylor also advocated for offering workers pay incentives if they were able to increase output during the work day, thus attempting to reduce the common practice of soldiering.
