Rudolf Höss is known as one of the most evil Nazis of the Second World War. He was a man who was the Commandant of Auschwitz and he built the concentration camp into the largest killing site of World War 2. At the end of the war he tried to hide out but eventually he was captured by British forces and he was then brought to trial. However after the huge amount of evidence that was given, he was sentenced to death however Rudolf Höss' execution was one which was rather different and special. Following the announcement of the death sentence, those who had survived Auschwitz came forward and lobbied the judges and Polish authorities to allow Höss' execution to take place within Auschwitz. This was allowed and on a specially created gallows, the Commandant of Auschwitz was executed within his own concentration camp.
