ASÍ SE CUIDA A LA TORTUGA MÁS GRANDE DEL MUNDO EN COLOMBIA

The leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) is the largest sea turtle in the world, and the beaches of Acandí, in the Colombian Chocó region, are one of its most important nesting sites in the Caribbean. Every season, researchers and local communities conduct nighttime monitoring to protect the females that come ashore to lay their eggs and ensure the survival of this critically endangered species. This work is made possible thanks to the support of the Herencia Colombia program and partners such as WWF Colombia. Learn why protecting this territory means protecting a species that connects oceans.
