THE DESCEND: What goes up must come down | EBC Trek Part 4 | Misbah Rahman
What goes up must come down. After reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters, the journey isn't over. In some ways, it's just beginning. In Part 4, I descend from the highest point of my life back to civilization. This is the part nobody talks about - the emotional comedown, the physical toll, and the strange feeling of leaving the mountains behind. This is Days 10-13: The journey home. 📍 IN THIS EPISODE: 🥾 DAY 9: Gorak Shep to Pangboche (5,164m → 3,985m) Waking up after summit day - exhausted but triumphant Rapid descent of 1,179 meters in one day The body starts recovering as oxygen increases Leaving the barren landscape, trees reappear First hot shower in days - pure bliss 🏔️ DAY 10: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,985m → 3,440m) Retracing steps through familiar villages Everything looks different on the way down Meeting trekkers just starting their journey The perspective shift - I'm now the one who made it Celebrating in Namche with proper food and warmth 🚁 DAY 11: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (3,440m → 2,860m) The final descent through Sherpa villages Crossing the same suspension bridges - but lighter Arriving back at Lukla where it all began How different I feel from Day 1 Last night in the mountains - bittersweet ✈️ DAY 12: Lukla to Kathmandu (2,860m → 1,400m) The most dangerous flight in the world - Lukla airport takeoff Flying over the landscapes I just walked through Landing in Kathmandu - back to noise, traffic, chaos Culture shock in reverse Processing what just happened 💭 THE TRUTH ABOUT DESCENDING: Everyone focuses on reaching the summit. Nobody tells you about coming down: Descending is harder on your knees than climbing up The adrenaline is gone - now it's just pain and exhaustion You're mentally done but physically still have days to go Injuries happen more on descent (when you're tired and careless) The emotional letdown hits hard You start missing the mountains before you've even left But there's also beauty in the descent: Each step brings more oxygen - breathing gets easier You appreciate the lower villages with fresh eyes Hot meals taste better than ever Warm showers feel like luxury You realize how much you've changed 📊 STATS FOR PART 4: Starting Point: Gorak Shep (5,164m) Ending Point: Kathmandu (1,400m) Total Descent: 3,764 meters Distance Covered: ~65 km Days: 4 (Days 10, 11, 12, 13) Flights Survived: 1 (Lukla to Kathmandu - the scariest part of the whole trek) 🎯 WHAT THIS JOURNEY TAUGHT ME: Part 1 taught me to start. Part 2 taught me to endure. Part 3 taught me to finish. Part 4 taught me to carry it forward. This trek wasn't just about reaching Everest Base Camp. It was about proving to myself that I could do hard things. That I could leave comfort behind. That I'm capable of more than I believed. Standing at Base Camp was the peak. But the real transformation happened on the way down. When you descend from 5,364 meters, you don't return as the same person who started climbing. You return stronger. More aware. More alive. The mountains gave me something I didn't know I needed: Perspective. Humility. Confidence. Peace. 🙏 THANK YOU: To everyone who followed this journey from Part 1 to Part 4 - thank you. To the Sherpas who made this possible - dhanyabad. To the mountains that humbled and inspired me - I'll be back. This is Misbah Rahman, signing off from the Himalayas.
