THE SECRET WWII RANGE BUILT FOR AN INVASION THAT NEVER CAME | Hidden Newcastle History

🇦🇺 THE SECRET WWII RANGE BUILT FOR AN INVASION THAT NEVER CAME 🇦🇺 Hidden amongst the bushland of Fern Bay, north of Newcastle, lie the forgotten remains of one of Australia’s most unusual wartime sites. In June 1942, as Japanese forces advanced across the Pacific and Newcastle came under attack from a Japanese submarine, military planners feared that Australia’s east coast could become a future battlefield. As defensive lines were established and coastal batteries stood ready, a secret facility was constructed amongst the dunes and bushland of Stockton. Built to test armour plate and ammunition, the range played a small but important role in Australia’s wartime preparations. Today, little remains. Join me as I walk through the bush in search of forgotten ruins, mysterious observation bunkers, hidden military structures and the remains of the armour proofing range itself. Along the way we uncover a fascinating chapter of Newcastle’s WWII history and explore a place built for a war that never reached Australia’s shores. 🌿 Forgotten History 🪖 WWII Relics 🎯 Armour Proofing Range 🏚️ Hidden Ruins 🇦🇺 Newcastle Defence History If you enjoy exploring forgotten places, hidden history and abandoned relics from Australia’s past, don’t forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe.
