Ukraine launches large-scale drone strike on Crimea - Operations at major titan plant is suspended

A large-scale Ukrainian drone attack targeted the Crimean Titan industrial complex in Armyansk, northern Crimea, on the night leading to June 13, forcing a suspension of production at the facility. The plant is the largest producer of chemical products in Eastern Europe and is considered strategically important because it manufactures titanium dioxide and other materials that can be used in Russia's defense and military-industrial sectors. The operation was announced by Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, who stated that the strike successfully hit the target and caused significant damage. According to Brovdi, fires broke out across the facility, and manufacturing activities were halted. He described the plant as the largest of its kind in Eastern Europe and noted that it was originally owned by Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash before coming under Russian control following Moscow's occupation of Crimea Peninsula. Video footage capturing the strike on the facility has been shared in social media. Brovdi claimed the facility currently supplies materials used in the production of gunpowder, rocket fuel, and explosives. He also accused the enterprise of causing environmental pollution due to emissions associated with its chemical processes. The commander suggested that operations at the plant would remain disrupted and indicated that Ukrainian forces intend to continue targeting facilities viewed as supporting Russia's military capabilities. Meanwhile, the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, citing local residents, reported that as many as 23 strikes were recorded during the attack. Witnesses claimed that damage was sustained throughout the industrial complex, affecting multiple production areas. According to these reports, employees scheduled for the morning shift were instructed not to report to work while emergency crews continued responding to the incident. Residents further alleged that firefighting efforts were being complicated by the chemical characteristics of the plant and the materials involved in the blaze. People living in Armyansk reportedly observed smoke over the city and detected a strong sulfur-like odor following the attack. Local occupation authorities, however, stated that air-quality monitoring had not detected pollutant levels exceeding established safety limits. The strike comes amid a broader Ukrainian campaign aimed at disrupting Russian logistics and military infrastructure in Crimea. In a recent interview with Reuters, Brovdi said he believes continued drone operations could effectively isolate the peninsula from Russian military support networks. The latest incident follows another Ukrainian operation reported on June 11, during which military targets near Armyansk, including bridges and Russian military vehicles, were allegedly struck.
