The Hole Revisited: Deep in the Oregon Coast Range, Relics, Rocks, a Fluffy Dog, and Juicy Snacks

A little adventure with my son and dog to find a new route to an old field trip site. I previously took my GEO 322 students to Swartz Creek in "The Hole," just south of the South Fork Alsea River divide and down the ridge from the "shallow soil profile. Overland, it's about a quarter mile from the shallow profile, but the drive is 16 miles! Unfortunately, poison oak and a grueling uphill make the overland route not so great. The spot is neat, but not that neat!
